Therapy for Intimacy and Relationship Issues

Rediscover closeness, improve communication, and reconnect emotionally and physically — together.

When Intimacy Feels Distant

Emotional and physical intimacy are cornerstones of a fulfilling relationship — but they don’t always come easily. Over time, distance, resentment, misunderstandings, or unspoken needs can take their toll.

You might be:

Feeling disconnected from your partner, emotionally or sexually

Avoiding vulnerable conversations or physical touch

Arguing more — or not talking much at all

Struggling with mismatched libidos or unhealed wounds

Feeling like you’re just “roommates” instead of partners

When you start to feel more like strangers than soulmates, it’s time to slow down and reconnect — with support.

How Therapy Can Help with Intimacy

Working through intimacy struggles doesn’t mean airing your most private details to a stranger. It means creating space to feel seen, heard, and supported — both individually and as a couple.

In therapy, we’ll work on:

  • Rebuilding emotional safety and trust
  • Improving communication about wants, needs, and fears
  • Addressing barriers to physical intimacy
  • Exploring unspoken patterns and relational dynamics
  • Reconnecting through empathy and shared vulnerability

Every couple experiences periods of disconnection. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s realignment, understanding, and renewed closeness.

My Approach to Intimacy Work

I provide a respectful, grounded, and nonjudgmental space for couples to explore sensitive topics. Whether the challenges are recent or long-standing, I work collaboratively with you to uncover what’s beneath the disconnection.

Drawing from person-centered, emotionally focused, and integrative therapy models, I help couples:

  • Express their needs with clarity and compassion

  • Understand attachment dynamics that shape intimacy

  • Work through past hurts without blame or shame

  • Build tools for maintaining closeness over time

There’s no “normal” when it comes to intimacy — only what feels fulfilling for the two of you.

"Intimacy isn’t just about sex — it’s about feeling safe, seen, and wanted in your relationship."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this sex therapy?

While I’m not a certified sex therapist, we can absolutely address physical intimacy, sexual concerns, and emotional closeness in a safe, respectful environment.

Q: Will we talk about our entire relationship history?

We’ll focus on what feels most helpful for your goals. Some couples prefer to explore past patterns; others want tools for the present and future.

Q: What if we’re not sure what the problem is?

That’s okay. Sometimes disconnection creeps in gradually. Therapy helps you understand what’s happening and how to shift.

Q: Do both partners need to attend?

Ideally, yes — but individuals can also work on relationship issues separately. We can decide together what makes the most sense.

Q: Are online sessions available?

Yes. I offer virtual therapy throughout California, and in-person sessions in Newport Beach.
